Default For whom the bell tolls \m/

2006 LR3 4.4. My Rover started making a bell sound over the weekend. Started off under load going up a hill. Would increase with vehicle speed. I was able to recreate the issue going forward and reverse in the garage. I back up a short distant then I hear what sounds like one ring of a bell. I then move forward and it will ring again. Anyone ever have this issue? I have a video I will upload later.

Take off the heat shield covering your rear driveshaft. Its almost certainly the rubber donut holding the carrier bearing

Also you can try slamming one of your side doors to recreate the sound

I didn't know our trucks came with Big Ben replicas built in.

Sounds like your carrier bearing donut, again. Remove the heat shield and you will know for sure. Its like 5, 10mm bolts/nuts.

I removed the shield to look things over initially. I inspected the carrier briefly, I'll take a harder look at it when I get the time.

Default Fixed

I checked the doughnut and everything look good. It was the joint behind it that went bad after flinging all the grease out. There was a small ring of grease on the sheild. Replaced the shaft and all is good. Thank you for the input!

I find this video very cool. It could almost be the opening scene to a Land Rover movie or event. Close your eyes while listening and you have sound effects from a Hollywood movie (a shipyard or something).
