I have just purchased a 2012 LR4, gulf spec. I knew there was a issue with the audio when buying it but wondered if you guys could help me try and fix it.
I believe it's the harmon kardon system.
The audio is really bad and sounds like a lot of music is missing if that makes sense?
I'm trying to find the amplifier. I looked under the passenger seat but can't find anything.
I don't know if the LR4 is the same, but the LR3 audio amplifier for the low end audio system is built into the radio (head unit) itself, only the high end audio system (2 types) had the amplifier under the passenger seat. This youtube video shows the removal process.
So I found the amp it's in the passenger rear quater panel. I tested another amp and the sound was the same. I have taken some pics and it looks like something else may be missing here
It sort of sounds like there is something wrong with the head unit if you changed the amp and there was no difference. A shop would try to feed in a very low strength test signal into the amp and note what came out, but you likely don't have that type of test equipment available. Good luck, hope you have some success...
I also have a 2012 that I just picked up with the Harmon Kardon sound system... exact same issue as the Op...
It's almost as if the mid's and the low's are filtered out and only the highs are coming out. The sound is pretty bad. There is also a noticeable lag between what comes out of the speakers and the response from the subwoofer in the back. Noticeable to the point where it sounds terrible.

Did anyone ever get this resolved?
Thanks
FYI I brought my LR4 to an audio specialist and they immediately said that it was the speakers that were worn, and that its a common issue with LR4s with the Harmon Kardon stereo system.
I replaced the speakers in the front and the rear and everything was solved. Sounds magically now compared to the crap I've been living with.

What speakers did you use as your replacements? My LR4's Harmon Kardon system sounds horrible and I would love to get it fixed.
