Default 5.0 v8

My understanding is this is a ford designed engine and is very similar to what was used in the mustang and F150 having the same timing chain tensioner and coolant leak problems. How close is this engine to the Land Rover version and are they at all interchangeable? The ford engines are much less expensive than the Land Rover variants, probably just do to more of them made.

If they are actually close, seems like a timing chain job on the ford version would be very similar if not the same as on a Land Rover. I’ve read about this repair being around $3-4k in a ford vs $7-9k on a rover. Something seems off here.

Will appreciate the education on this.

tks

Yes the AJ series engines, 4.2, 4.4, 3.0 and 5.0 were developed by JLR with and under Ford's ownership and manufactured in the Ford Bridgend factory in the UK. There's some similarities between the AJ and the Coyote but they're not interchangeable and a Ford main dealer's NOT going to support JLR products.

Thanks. But if the timing chain job is the same, why are the Land Rover independents charging so much more than say, a ford independent, to do the job?

Because out trucks say Land Rover. Not Ford.

That’s what I was thinking. Just thinking the local mechanic that services my Ford F150 might do an LR4 timing chain job for a lot less than the Land Rover independent if I were to take the leap and pick up an lr4 instead of an lr3. I would assume the special tools etc. are the same.

Due to the extremely cramped confines of the engine compartment, some places prefer to do this engine out which means removing the chassis from the frame and that's a BIG job.
