Default Best oil for 2014 LR4 - SCV6 engine

Hi guys,

What is the oil you guys are using for a 2014 LR4 with the SCV6? I have 80k miles.

The manual says 5W20. The last oil change I used Mobil1 5W-20 and before that Valvoline 5W-20 and I am up for another oil change shortly. What oil are you guys using? What is best for chain life longevity?

Thanks!

I've been using Ultra Platinum Pennzoil 5W20 for the last 5 years/100K+ miles, changed every 5K miles. Research and reviews suggest it's the best oil on the market, 100% pure synthetic with fantastic additives, even provides an engine warranty and it's about the least expensive oil in the US market. Next oil change however I'll be changing to 5W30.

Castrol Edge Extended Performance 0W-20 Advanced Full Synthetic

It is JLR approved and used on the 3.0 SCV6 from 2018 and backward compatible, apart from cold climate markets.

@Billywedlock Yea the SCV6 is ticky when cold on that stuff, quiets down after about 10 minutes of driving. And after about 30 minutes when the oil is hot much quieter I am going to try the old spec 5/20, when I change my oil and see if there is a difference.

It could just be my truck

At operating temperature, there is no difference between 0W20 and 5W20.
When the engine is cold, the higher fluidity, and thus flow of the 0W is appreciated as it improves time to lubricate effectively at startup.

What is strange is that the Castrol website oil finder says to use only "Castrol EDGE 5W-20" for the 2014 LR4.
Mobil 1 has no oil to recommend at all LOL
Pennzoil website says 5W-20 ultra platinum
Liqui Molly website says to use Special Tec LR SAE 0W-20
Amsoil website says AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-20 100% Synthetic Motor Oil

How come some state 0w and others 5w?

Easy. The spec was originally 5w... JLR changed the spec later on, following the number of cases where oil starvation at startup was identified as the root issue.
It seems the others have not bothered to stay on top of the requirement.
