Best Year for LR4?
So I have been a long time owner of a Disco 2, but lately I have been considering maybe getting a used Lr4. Are any model years better than others? Any model years to avoid? I know with Disco 2's the problems varied from model year to model year and was wondering if Lr4's had the same bugs. I think I prefer the V8 to the newer V6 so that rules out 2014 and up.

Hi Everyone, I'm in sort of in the same boat (don't want to hijack your post). Looking to get a used LR4, for sure I want a V8. Is there any specific year to avoid? For last 15 years I've been driving different Volvos, now its time to replace wife's '07 xc90 with something bigger. Right now the suv has about 240k km, and had no issues just the regular work you would expect, brakes, tires, tie end rods, one bearing all together about $3k over 5 years. Is it reasonable to expect the same from LR4? The reputation on the street is that LR is a money pit, at the same time I don't know any one who owns a LR. Looking for some pointers what to look for and what to avoid.

My wife drives a 2010 LR 4 soccer-mom-style and the car has been reliable to its current approximately 70K miles. The biggest issue was that the DVD player needed replacing. A few minor things here and there otherwise.
Having said that, our GL450 started going bad at 80K, so who knows, right ?
We miss no scheduled maintenance interval, change the oil every 4K miles, and have a warranty to 100K miles. Our goal is to give it to our oldest in 3 years when they start driving. Should be over 100K miles by then.
I can absolutely say it has NOT been a money pit. I've owned 2 money pits and this is not one of them.
Cheers !
PS: ZB-30--are you keeping the Disco 2 ? It sounds pretty sweet.

Having owned a couple of RR Sports and three LR3s, I would suggest going for the 2013 model. Aim for one still with original factory warranty so if there are any issues you have some time to sort them out. The five liter engine (in my 13 RRS) is spectacular, better than the 4.4s and even the SC 4.2. Haven't driven the new SC V6s, but I think the new V8 is preferred.

I have a 2011 HSE LUX bought used with 23K. PO had dealer do warranty water pump, I have taken off bling wheels and tires an installed the new original tires and wheels ( that PO left in back ) and did brake pads. biggest problem was key batteries, change yearly, was caught with dead and had to have reprogrammed along with a fuel tank vacuum pump. Really have had zilch problems. Towed trailer to Chicago from St. Louis and returned with car on trailer, towed UHaul to Fla. for sis with load of furniture. Have made 5 trips to Fla and tow locally ( cars and boats ) with no problems. Ready for 60K service ( doing myself ) along with pads and rotors, this time. Should be good to go to 120K.

I have 2011. bought it used with 8K from the dealer. I've had the battery replaced twice; including the one I got it replaced today. First one was under factory warranty in Dec. 2013(50K) and the one I got today was through Interstate Battery Manufacturer's warranty; 30 month free replacement.(Their warranty covers up to 6 yrs) I don't know how to replace the brake pads so I had to get it done by the dealer and it was pricy since they only replace the pads with rotors. if you can do your own oil change, brake pads, I don't think it will be a money pit. Good luck finding your future LR4.
