Brake pads only lasting 11k miles? (5 sets in 5 years)
My wife has 2014 LR4 and we've had good luck with it, except for the brake pads. She has 55,000 miles and is on 5th set of brake pads. Land Rover Dallas charges a fortune to replace her front/back pads and rotors. I talked the guy last time on the phone and said they had not even got 11k miles. He said "Oh well she's a female driver and you know how hard they brake, plus its city driving." I told him "she drive normal and got 95,000+ miles out of her brake pads on Toyota."
It's pretty expensive to get all four changed at the dealership once a year.
The brakes don't make any noise and seem to function fine when they replace them.
Do you think some sensor is misjudging the depth and says they need replacing too soon.
Do you think this is a money grab by the technician?
Does LR4 have a history of brake issues (maybe pads are made too small)?
What does your dealer charge for brake pad replacement?
We are buying the 4th replacement set today, so that is why I am asking.
Thanks!

You should be getting far more than 11k miles on a set of brakes. I have 2015 LR4 and got 32k on the first set of rears and 39k on the front. Possible a little better than some people but probably half of that was highway. The dealer will replace the rotors with a brake change. You should be able to get at least 2 sets of pads on a rotor. As jeffh said go to an independent mechanic or try to do yourself. It isn't a difficult job. Also the dealer will tell you the brakes need replaced with 4 or 5mm of pad left. You can get at least 5k miles more after that. Also the rear pads usually wear out first. When I change out my pads I make sure they slide in the guides freely even if I have to file some material off the ears. When you step on your brakes they need to back off the rotor when you release the brake pedal. If they ride on the rotor they will wear out prematurely.
Thank you 32k sounds a lot better. I think I will just wait a year after they say need to be changed because they work fine and no noises or anything. I think they are changing them too early. Surely they can look at it and notice it's not that bad after 11k miles.
I got the final receipt. Just the rear brakes was $797 plus tax = $847
$234 disc brake
$122 brake pad
$46 wire
$395 labor
