What brake pads should I buy?
I was seeing what are some recomendations for brake pads on a 1999 D2. The last time I had the brakes changed was about 25,000 miles ago where I had EBC slotted/drilled rotors installed with EBC 6000 series greenstuff pads. I know that this is pretty good mileage for brake pads on such a heavy truck, but I figured there are better products out there. Any suggestions?
Also I want to know how difficult it would be for me to change the pads myself in addition to changing the brake fluid. I have never attempted to do a task like this (pretty much stick to oil changed etc.) so I'm not sure if I have the know how to do it right. Is it difficult or can a newbe do it on his own. Please let me know what you think, Thanks

I did my brake pads on my '00 D2. It's not that hard, just make sure to have your rotors turned or install new ones. Bleeding brakes shouldn't be any harder on these than any other vehicle, they make tools to make it easier, vacuum pumps and such. My only suggestion for brake pads is to not go with semi metallic. They stop the truck, but they squeel like Michael Jackson in a playground. I will be redoing mine at the end of the month with cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads. I have access to the hobby shop on base with mechanics there if I have any questions, but I just winged it when I did them the first time. If you have ever done brakes before, it makes it easier. If it really concerns you, you can take your parts to brake max or equivalent. They won't warranty anything, but it saves you the trouble.
If you do your own brakes, make sure to open the bleed screw before compressing the caliper so the junk in the piston doesn't go back up the line. On the turning, I don't think you can turn Rover rotors. There isn't enough tolerance on D1's but not sure on D2's. Make sure to apply PLENTY of squeal stop to the back of the pads, or MJ will appear as previously stated...
I would get a buddy that has done brakes before to help. Replacing the pads is so easy it is silly, but you kinda have to know what you are doing so you don't make it harder than it is. Brakes to me are a serious deal, especially on a 5000lb giant dishwasher.

With those rotors and pads, I would have expected alot more mileage from the pads. I am running DBA which are really the only slotted and drilled rotor on the market for Rovers. They do tend to cool better the the EBC that only are dimpled, not drilled, so no hot gases escape.
Sounds like you are a hard braker, to only get 25,000 miles from those pads, I am at 65,000 plus with my original Kevlar pads. You might want to call Steve at, DAP, he sells a different EBC pad that might last longer.
Don't even consider turning the rotors and make sure you do a full brake bleed using 2 quarets of Vavoline's synthetic brake fluid, it will take the extra heat better.

Well I figured that I should get alot more because I am as light on my brakes as possible. However, I do live in a city in NJ and travel to NYC frequently (lots and lots of traffic/lights every day). So I think that might have an affect on my brakes
