I ended up passing on the LR4 this thread was originally posted about. Car was in nice cosmetic shape and had a number of nice off-road mods I liked, but I just couldn't get past the mileage, considering that I'm seeing a number of sub 100k mile examples going for $10k or less. Still on the lookout.

I also agree with everything said above in respect to car payments. I find it hard to justify spending $80-$100k+ on a new high end LR, Lexus, MB, etc SUV/off-roader when you can get into these cars at such an affordable price point. Even if you have to deal with absolute worst case scenario repair bills, you're probably coming out ahead...

 

Good move! BTW, did they try to negotiate when walking away?
