Default Coolant leak and maintenance…

Dealing with coolant leak on 2016 LR4 again… hopefully this time dealer gets it right on first go.

Also, doing some routine maintenance at around 100k miles. Dealer quoted $83 add on for Engine Max oil treatment and $150 add on for oil system cleaner in addition to the standard oil change charges. Are these needed or just dealer up charges? They are also charging for $340 for brake fluid exchange.

by the way, does the dealer install new crossovers yet, or still just the old defective ones?

thanks for any advice!

In went ahead and had my crossover pipes changed over to the metal version at 84k miles. When they go bad, it can be catastrophic. I did not want to risk it.

There are 2 different types of genuine dealer pipes, plastic or alloy. The plastic versions are maintenance items as they only last about 50K miles. The alloy ones will last a lifetime. Main dealers do not intentionally supply defective parts, if something's defective, it will be replaced at no charge by Land Rover, parts and labour.

Keep in mind JLR cooling circuits are quite complex with dozens of parts, many of which are prone to failure. It's best, especially at 100K miles to replace EVERYTHING as you will inevitably be chasing one leak after another as each aged part fails. It will save you tons of money on duplicate labour.

The add ons for the oil change are extra profit for the dealer and no benefit to the engine. The best care for your engine is synthetic oil every 5K miles or less, never more. The price for the fluid flush is quite fair if it's done correctly - removing all four wheels and bleeding each caliper.

thanks, appreciate it. I had a coolant leak three years ago and it took the dealer 3 tries and over $6k to solve it, hoping this time it is simpler. I think just about everything got replaced last time… this time am doing metal crossovers if they need replacement. Hopefully it is something simple.
