Disco 4 Petrol Or Diesel
I'm looking to buy a Discovery 4 2016 Petrol Engine 3.0lt. 340HP. I used disco last 12 years. Disco 3 . 2.7 2004, Disco 4 3.0 Diesel 2011 which is actually what I'm driving. Any suggestion for changing to petrol engine??
I know very well the Disco 3 had it for 11 Years and the 4 Almost 1 year but not knowing the petrol engines I'm not sure if it is a good idea. Thanks in advance.

I've owned every Discovery 3 and 4 engine type diesel and petrol with the exception of the 5.0L V8. The weakest was the 2.7 turbo diesel. The best engine (most fun and easiest to maintain) was the 4.4L V8 - loved it; it was also the smoothest. The quickest I had was the 3.0L twin turbo diesel. The engine I like least is the noisy 3.0 SCV6 I now have in the 2016 LR4. It sounds like a bag of spanners but so far it's been ok.
As you'll probably know, every one of these engines has their problems be it the oil pump/crank case in the diesels or the coolant pipes in the SCV6 or the timing chains in the earlier petrol models, to name but a few. None of them are particularly fuel efficient and more generally they're all expensive to run unless you're prepared to do your own maint to a greater or lesser degree. If you are happy to turn a spanner there's a ton of resources out there to make life easier and reduce running costs. But you probably know that otherwise you wouldn't be here!
Having had pretty much every model, I think it's personal preference. The youngest of these cars are over 5 YO, so if you're in a market where you're able to buy petrol or diesel I'd chose on condition, service history, trim level, etc.
