Default Early Indicators of worn timing chain guides?

Besides the knocking/Ticking noise what are the early indicators that the guides and tensioners are shot before catastrophic failure? Will it start throwing engine warning lights? I bought a one owner 2012 last year with with 70k and I have put 8k on it. I want to do some cross country trips in this thing but after reading all the horror stories I'm stressing over it crapping out on me 2000 mikes from home with no warnings. Are there codes that will show up before the check engine light come on that I can keep an eye on?

typically, they will get noisy long before they catastrophically fail. They also may start throwing P0016 and/or p0018 pwer train codes.

Yes, my chains are noisy…. but not as noisy as the high pressure fuel pump, lol.
Touch wood, Still not throwing any codes…

yes the fuel pumps are concerning noisy! I am having my 2012 5.0 engine at the machine shop after overheating... Guy you seem to have a lot of answers, time to change vacuum and fuel pumps or not?
I am looking at my timing chain with 116k Miles, they literally look like new, but when I tore the engine down I did not see any sign some had been in there before me! I am little baffled since my LR4 was built in October 2011.... what is your take on that??
Last thing: so the endless offerings of timing chain sets have me confused. are these all the same just sold from the factory direct or how can I tell them apart????
it seems unlikely to me that there would be multiple companies making cheap reproduction set but the prices are all over ! from 120$ 1300$ from Atlantic British, they all look the same! what's up with that????

Sorry, been enjoying the summer…

Truth be known, those pumps are not the noisiest I’ve ever heard. And at 170,000 km they are still doing the job.
No codes.

What’s interesting to me is that it seems the LPFP gives up the ghost long before the HPFP. From that racket I would never have guessed that. So, I’m not worrying about it yet. And for my entertainment I tell the unknowing that “that’s the sound of a diesel”, lol.

As for the timing chains, sprockets and guides… I will not take any chances and only source oem. As I understand it, for your vehicle there are a few engineering enhancements including not just the guides but also the sprockets and a chain re-engineering. I’m over “chinesium”.
