Help!
Our business has a fleet of land rover discoveries, however in the last year we have had 3 of them suddenly fail on the motorway. The engine has cut out and on taking them to the garage they have said that the engine is completely blocked and needs to be replaced. Each of the cars have had about 90,000m or 140,000km on the clock. Our business is high in the mountains and its frequently in temperatures of -10. We have a lot of snow also. Has anyone any ideas why this might be happenening? Could it be something to do with how they are being serviced? The wrong oil or something? One seemed like a one off, two seemed weird, three now seems like we are doing something seriously wrong.

Diesel or petrol?

Also could you give us more other than blocked?

 

 

Ask him if the engine crank will turn. He can put a large socket on the engine pulley and turn with a long ratchet to check.

In those temps seems like maybe oil weight or antifreeze could be an issue. If using to much water in the antifreeze mix the coolant can freeze and cause the motor to overheat.

 

Or the diesel gelled up but seems unlikely with modern fuel blends

 

Check the fuel filters. I've never even seen a diesel LR here in the states, but nonetheless we still have other diesel trucks. Dying on the highway sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

Like previously mentioned, the diesel might have gelled. It still can happen. The fuel pump can only push liquid fuel, not a gel.

Also check the fuel filters. But if you've been maintaining the trucks properly, then you must have replaced these quite often. If the filters get clogged, they won't allow good fuel flow.

 

I end up getting P0172 error - "mixture too reach" with the tune box ....
