Engine Knock when cold
Hi guys - I've got a knock
(see attached video). 2011 LR4 5.0 that I've had for 7 months. The previous owner put in a rebuilt engine and put about 7k miles on it. It's now got about 12k miles on that engine. The knock came out of nowhere it seems. On a cold start, you won't hear it at the high-rev (1500rpm) initial warm up. When it settles to around 700 rpms you get the knock heard in the video. Once the car warms up (about 5 mins of driving), the knock is gone and it sounds normal. It seems like the sound comes from the entire engine and not just one side. I've heard it could be piston slap due to the noise going away when warm. Any ideas?

I found your post, but see no responses. Same issue here. 2011 RR HSE 5.0 V8 with 105k miles. Anyone have any ideas?
I’ve only owned this a year but had loads of deferred maintenance done just short of the timing chains, but if this is piston slap, it’s hardly worth putting $$ into that, right? I changed the oil with Royal Purple this time and it seems nothing has changed. It runs and sounds amazing when warm and pulls like a freight train still.
