Default Engine Seems Hot

So the engine in my 2012 Lr4 seems like it's running hot, even smells a little hot. Temperature gauge raises normally to appropriate level and not showing overheating. But i just have that gut feeling its hotter than it should be. Coolant level is fine. No warning lights. What would you recommend I do? Thanks.

Run a gap tool or similar to check the live data readings on coolant temp

haha - Jason, you've got to remember that you're in California where it's pretty much warm to hot all of the time....AND....you have a new engine

I need to get a gap tool too once I get Bertha fixed up and back on the road. She's going back to the shop this weekend

Hi Jason! I sure hope not but at this point, who knows... I should have just purchased the Turner engine when you had yours done and I'd be driving her by now. Had the front cover/oil pump replaced, parked her over the winter as I wanted to do more maintenance before driving (ball joint replacement, transfer case reseal, etc.). Went to jump start her this spring and had to shut her off due to overactive throttle for some reason. SO.. now I probably need head gaskets replaced in addition to throttle issue as I had her running at full throttle while I tried to stomp down the pedal and/or see if the high idle (max rpm) would come down at all.

I am so torn on this vehicle. Part of me says 'take her home, put her in the garage and tear her apart'. The other part of me says 'what in god's name do you think you're going to do with it?!? You'll end up slicing your fingers off trying to fix it'... then another part of me says 'this is going to be a lifelong process that will never end' and then the OTHER part of me says 'just sell it or donate her to a good cause'.

So there you go...

I am in a very painful place right now and I don't know which way to turn. I started to disassemble the air intake and throttle body housing area to take a looksee and then thought 'I could kill myself or someone else if I got into an accident with this stupid throttle sticking and I 'attempted' to fix it'. It is half disassembled now so I suppose I could finish the job and find out if the butterfly valve is stuck open and if that is the issue at hand. Then have it towed to the auto shop. At least I'd know.

And the stupid thing is, if it is a stuck valve, that is all the shop will be doing to it, right? Cleaning it out with cleaner, taking a look at the IACV, etc. and cleaning that as well. Maybe change the cables if they are old.

I think I think too much haha.

I called the mechanic earlier this week and he said he's booked up for the next couple of weeks but that I could drop it off (ie; flat bed it). I went over the litany of 'it could be this... it could be that..' and he said 'it may not even be your throttle. It could be due to a vacuum leak..'

The thing is, I'd expect to see the check engine light on if that was the case and it isn't.

So we shall see...

Thanks for asking and I hope you are enjoying your Disco!
