Brakes also need to be replaced, somewhere between 20K and 25K miles - and while I have not received a direct estimate, figure this to be between $1400 and $1500.
That is true but everyone should learn to do your own brakes. Genuine Land Rover rotors, sensors and pads cost about $600 from online dealers (parts.com, www.carpartsestore.com). You could probably resurface the rotors and not buy new ones. Most local machine shop will turn rotors for $10 a pop. That will cut down the parts price in half or go with aftermarket pads for even lower price. One Sunday afternoon and you will save boat loads of money. Be proud and take your family out to a nice dinner with money left over.
Also go to tirerack.com. There are better rated and cheaper tires available for LR4.
We have a new LR4 and have taken it fully loaded with ski equipment and a Thule box on top twice up to the mountains to ski (about 160 miles round trip) and have averaged a little over 18 mpg round trip.
