Default High idle at start up

I posted this in the Range Rover section, but since it's the same engine as the LR4, here it goes:

2012 sport 5.0 motor.

At start up( cold or warm) the RPMs go to 2k for a few seconds, then to 1.2k for approx 25 seconds then settle at 750-800.

I have cleaned the throttle body and reset adaptive values with no change.

Had the intake off with ignition on while my wife stepped down on the pedal smoothly to check the butterfly movement. Seems a little stalled at the beginning of the sweep, but if it is, it's so minor that I'm doubting that's what I'm seeing.

Any thoughts?

This seems perfectly normal to me.
On a cold vehicle the engine RPM will momentarily stay high to "get the juices flowing"
This is worse in colder climates. The RPM will stay higher even longer.
For me 30-45 seconds in the winter time (Maine).

Thabk you for the response.

Problem is, it does this at cold start up and warm/hot start up. No matter what the operating temperature it does this.

Perfectly normal. Heats up the cats for lower start up emissions
