Hopefully Back from the dead
You've done darn well for having taken on a LR4 needing a new emgine!
And seeing what they look like in pieces I get why most mechanics pass on the job or give you the "I don't want to do it" price. I'm always looking for such a project myself. Long term, like over winter type project.
Did you have the heads milled or install the steel inserts?

- With the price that some places are charging its almost easier for them to pull the motor and replace vs taking the time to diagnosis a problem. This shop was very professional and very up front with pricing and the scope of work.
-I did not have the heads milled or add inserts. The head gaskets were probably ok, but I wanted to see if the valves had made contact with the pistons and there wasn't any evidence that they had hit. The shop performed a compression test and all cylinders were between 225-228 and they also did a leak down test so turns out I didn't mess up the head gasket. The only thing that was a pain to find were the pins that hold the heads to the block. It's actually a true Ford part vs Land Rover.
-There are always a bunch of LR4 projects to find. They only advice would be to stay away from overheating ones. Bent valves are way easier to fix than a warped head. Buy quality parts. I made the mistake on a few items and ended up having to go backwards to replace with OEM parts.
