Looking for advice on this polar bear I'm about to buy 🐻❄️
Hi Landy people!
I'm about to buy a new Discovery 4. It's a 2014, 3.0 TDV6 S. 150 000 milage. Serviced regularly at LR. Chain belt changed last year.
It has a paint I'm not familiar with, is it custom or standard? It's white but black over the wheels - isn't that a D3 paint style?
Ive got some questions apart from that.
What is a car like this worth? I've heard about 17 250 EUR. It's still a lot of money for an old car. Even if it's a Land Rover.
What does S mean really? Is it bottom level? From what I can see it doesn't have sunroofs, or electric seat settings, which I can live without. What else doesn't it have compared to HSE?

S means “poverty spec” in many markets. Reason the arches are black is, well, body colored arches aren’t included in that trim level.. or part of some pack.
JLR changed these several times during the D4 production, and some aren’t available in all regions but it goes roughly like this:
Also, in some markets there was a LCV version which is basically a two seater van.. less car tax and of course VAT deductible and all that socialist governments insist normally on 😂 I guess it could also be had in various trims.
As you’re in Europe, probably the best comps can be found in Germany as the market is very big and efficient. Take a look at similar vehicles there, AutoScout24 and mobile.de are the two largest online marketplaces for both private and commercial sellers/buyers.

- GS (I think this was only in UK)
- S (XS is equivalent?)
- Graphite
- SE
- SE Tech (UK only, too?)
- HSE
- HSE Luxury
- Landmark (last production year run out model)

I’d add that trim levels aren’t necessarily identical between countries and regions. But in principle S has the least amount of toys and HSE Lux or Landmark have the most… by default. Buyer can of course change this to some degree so it is possible to have a SE or SE Tech which is at HSE level or similar.
You will need to figure out what the car has but usually S doesn’t include the color display in the center console, heated steering wheel, has basic audio (low line) instead of HK Logic 7 or Meridian/Meridian Surround, lacks satnav, might not have door mood lighting, etc. you mentioned manual seats, probably not leather but cloth seats unless upgraded. Etc. etc.
