Default LR4 Compressor replacement

I have read tons of posts here about replacing a failing compressor, but can someone answer if the Rover MUST be on a lift to swap this out? I only have a jack or 2, but not lift. So do all 4 wheels need to be off the ground to do the swap to a new compressor?

thanks!

I never jacked up the truck when changing mine. But it wasn’t in Access height mode. The compressor is small, so if you can fit your head under the truck to see the bolts, should not be an issue.

Default ok but

I would think the air would then leak from the system and drop while you were doing the swap no?

I never noticed air escaping, I believe the valves (if functional) prevent that. Plus, even Access Height, is not that low.

The valve blocks hold the air for the corners.

OK so I did the compressor replacement last night, it took about 1 hour, the job would take 30 minutes if it were not for 1 of the bolts to remove the compressor bracket being impossible to get to much less remove. I bought a cheap China Hitachi style compressor off of ebay instead of a 1100 dealer part. IT was an exact match in size and mounted right up. The only difference I can see between the stock on and this one is the slight noise it makes like a cheap 12v air pump when adding air to the system. All in all the dealer wanted 1500 bucks, what a joke...

Here is some step by step directions to help you out and a video that shows you how to remove.

Link to instructions

Tools needed to swap Compressor
10MM socket and driver with long extension and flexible coupling.
30Torx
10MM wrench, longer the better to remove the difficult bolt.
