A peek into the cylinders?? A peek at the crank shaft bearings. A peek at the cams.
And if that passes with minor effort or parts; a valve job, new timing chains and gears, etc. (Some only change the chains… and that would be wrong)

Of course I’m always bewildered by those in the situation of insufficient oil…. how on earth do you let that happen??
