Default LR4 Oil Level indicator problem

I recently bought a 2012 LR4. I went through the 70,000 mile update where I changed the oil amongst other things. I used the recommended 5-20 wt. Mobile 1 oil (now on sale at NAPA, by the way). When I was done draining the oil and replacing the filter, I filled it up with 8 quarts as recommended. Unfortunately there is no oil dipstick on the LR-4 so you are forced to use the dashboard indicator. Here’s the problem - after adding 8 quarts, it shows that the level is ‘MIN’, and on the right of it, the indicator says ‘Not Available’. What does that mean?

I’ve enclosed a screenshot so you can see what I mean. Landrover is the second company that I’m aware of that’s eliminated the dipstick. Why I don’t know but I think it is really stupid. I had an X5 with the same issue. So I’m forced to assume that I don’t have enough oil in the LR4. Has anyone else seen this?

If not mistaken its 8.2qts. You need to open the filter first before draining, this will drain upward of 1/2qt. from the filter housing. If your digital readout is showing "min" add 1/4qt. check again. add a bit more. if need be. Also in the future its bet to use a mitivac. This gets the most oil from the system, as well as allowing you to measure how much you have extracted.

Ah yes the awesome digital oil gauge. I have a 2012 and do my own maintenance (with the mitivac as well) and it takes it sweet time to get a reading. Eventually, sometimes even the next day, is when it decides to. Check it again the next day or two.

Default Too much oil

I recently purchased a 2012 LR4. Wanting to check the oil I read the manual and did the electronic sensor. Having just turned off the auto the not available note came up. It showed oil at min. I purchased two quarts of oil and put them in the car. I reread the manual and determined your engine must be off for at least 1/2 hour. The first two days I checked it showed at the top of indicator. Today it said “ overfilled”. However the overfilled light did not come on.

What should I do?
