Let me know what the other code reader says, and if you have any recommendations on best code readers for the LR4.

I had the dealer do the PCM update, again, just to make sure. The code stays off until you drive it for 20-30 miles and restart it. Then pops back on.

I would think that the dealers machine would be the best you could possibly get. My buddies reader didn't tell me anything different from my El cheapo reader. I just am having a hard time convincing myself that the dealer is any more qualified to figure this out since I've been there twice now with no resolution. I'm leaning towards the fuel filter, but I'll have to take it back to them for that repair, my manual says there is a special tool to open the gas tank.

Next thing I'm going to check is the work they did on the recall. That's when all this started. Maybe there's a leak somewhere. Wouldn't explain why we are both seeing the same exact problem however.

This is a real stumper since the car runs absolutely perfect.

I was asking the dealer about the fuel filter but he didnt seem to know. Do you know where it's located and any replacement DIY threads? That seems like logical step to take, unless its in the tank and have to drop it anyway

Ive started researching how to drop the tank. Doesnt look terribly hard but just unsure if you can get it down far enough without a lift, and/or how heavy it is.

The dealer did say if you drive the car with low fuel that could clog the pump. My wife is definitely guilty of that.

The filter is attached to the fuel tank cover, which is a separate assembly to the pump. It's inside the tank and there is a special tool to open the cover. It should be replaced along with the pump, which apparently was not done in my case.

I don't know about DIY for this repair. I'm sure it could be done, but the tank should probably be fairly empty when you do it or it's going to be heavy as hell. You will have to disconnect all the fuel lines going to it because there isn't enough slack in them to drop it. You would also have to disconnect the filler pipe. Without a lift, I don't know if I would even attempt it. Plus, you will need the special tool for the cover and new gaskets which the repair manual specifies.
I do run the tank pretty low on a regular basis, and my filter could be partially clogged. It is a major suspect right now and I'm leaning towards taking it back to the dealer for the replacement. I might use an independent if I can find one I trust, only because the dealer should have replaced the filter as a matter of course, and they didn't, which makes me question their abilities or motives.

Dropped the tank and replaced the pump. Problem solved. Took 5-6hrs but would have taken 1-2hrs with a lift and proper documentation. Most of the time was figuring out how to unclip connectors and how to re-orient the pump and fuel filter in the tank. Zero info on this and its tricky because you are reaching you hand into a dark tank of gas to do it blindly Also my 2016 LR4 fuel filter looks nothing like the workshop manual or pics ive seen. its not located on the fuel flange itself. its its own part attached to the top of the tank. you need to remove it to get the pump out but took me like an hour messing with it to figure out how to get it back in.

Happy to do a writeup DIY guide on it if anyone needs.

I thought I had everything dialed in with the coolant system and fuel pump...then 1 day later I see coolant on the driveway. The thermostat housing now leaking so need to replace that next weekend. If anyone has any DIY guides on that let me know.

Let us know if the code comes back. When they replaced my pump the code stayed off for a week or so.

I'm taking my car to a 3rd party shop next week. They are supposed to be "experts" in all things Rover. We will see.

Also, did you replace the fuel filter or reuse the original?

I reused the fuel filter. And I dont even know what the fuel filter SKU is. It's not like the ones you see in the pictures thats attached to the fuel flange. that may have been what the recall changed. the fuel flange is now just a plastic cap with ports for the fuel, vent and electrical connections. the filter is a separate canister attached to the inside top of the tank.

I did see some grit (like small pebbles) in the tank and spent some time cleaning that out. but the mesh pre filter was clean and no residue or goop in the tank. I did however see the hose from the pump to the filter was kinked. I was wondering if that may have been enough to cause a slight under pressure situation. I unkinked it but didnt replace.

Third party fully tested the car, dropped tank, and found the replacement pump was not functioning as needed. Installed new pump again and everything is good to go.

They have no idea what the dealer did to the original replacement pump. Used pump? Wasn't installed correctly? Who knows.

I’m having the EXACT same challenges. I’d love any diy guide you’re willing to provide.

I’m getting code P008A after running pretty low on fuel yesterday, under 1/8 tank, DTE 10 miles. No sign of any issue yesterday, filled tank and drove for another 2.5 hours with a few on off cycles. Then parked overnight, threw the code this AM. Hoping as more fresh fuel flows this goes away.
