Default My 2010 LR4 might be dead - how to get max value

It's a sad time for me but the transmission failed - replacement is about what LR's of this vintage sell for. Rebuild might work but $6,500 is a lot to pay for might.

It's got about 86,000 on it and most of the parts are in good shape - no dents, no rips, etc.

I'm trying to get the most value out of this situation. I'm in the Los Angeles area if that matters.

Thank you.

“most value” for a dead LR4? hmmm.
Don’t trust a rebuild of a common and one of the very good transmissions of the time? ZF makes a quality product. Despite what you may hear, the Germans are all about servicing and maintenance.
I’d like to know specifically what is wrong with the transmission… and how that occurred.

I’ve got a shop in Orange County. I’d say it’s worth $2k to $4k depending on condition, trim level, color, etc.

a used trans can be risky, but if you are a gambler, might not be a terrible idea.

My shop is CARRS4X4 and my number is in my profile if you need some advice.

Sad to hear

I might be in the same boat as you, looking at a possible engine replacement on a 2012 LR4 HSE
... that I've owned for like 1 month

ouch! Sorry. That is rough. If you guys were closer you could make one good LR4 from both.

What makes you say might? The guys that do them here rebuild everything including the mechatronics, valve body, and torque converter. With a 2 year warranty.

Thanks for your ideas.

As to what was wrong: code for 3/4 shift error, and a park neutral signal fault.
The transmission slips if driven.

Right or wrong, I am going with a rebuild of the transmission and torque converter.
The shop provides a 2 year/24,000 mile transferrable warranty.
If we sell in the next year or so, we get the money back.

If you are still looking for a used RR transmission - I have a 2010 LR4 in excellent shape (outside of engine). Transmission was great when it last ran - it has been sitting in my driveway for 3 years. I have just logged into this forum to try and sell the car for parts - Not even sure yet where to list it(as parts, or as a whole car that doesn't run?). Sounds like you are in CA - I am in NJ. This was my wife's car. Engine on this car is totally shot, rest of car is in excellent shape - (RR dealer quoted my wife 29k to replace engine). Please let me know if interested. Would be a much cheaper option than a rebuild. Will probably list it on here tomorrow regardless. thanks
