Default NEED HELP with 2015 Land Rover 3.0L SCV6 supercharged

I’m new to the Land Rover world (thanks to my daughter). So here what’s going on.. sometimes when you crank it up and it’s setting there running and all of a sudden something brings the motor to a complete stop! You and crank it right back up.. doesn’t make a lot of noise or anything other than a little clicking I’m guessing the timing chain etc.. the temp gauge in the dash says it’s in the middle of H & C .. but with a diagnostic tool the temp was 215 and rising some .. has new water pump, and new thermostat and I thought first maybe the clutch fan was causing the motor to come to a stop.. so I changed it.. and the last time it was running and stopped the starter just clicks .. so I’ve removed the starter and all the belts. You can turn it over with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley. It’s not real easy but it turns a complete turn frontwards and backwards- not sure how easy it’s suppose to be? So I took the starter and put it on a bench test at first it didn’t seem to spin that good so I took it apart and it definitely needed cleaning .. the starter spins over fine but when I put it back on it still will not spin the motor over ! Do you think the starter is too weak and needs to be replaced? So I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue before? I’ve even removed the spark plugs but didn’t help! Is it possible that a bad torque converter would cause this? Thanks I’m advance for any help!

Welcome to the club. Sorry your first experience starts out like this. How many miles are on the car, and how much history do you have with it?

I assume you checked the alternator and battery voltage, and you have a diagnostic tool, so no codes, correct? Does it ever shut down while driving, or just while idling? When it clicks, is it that same sound as you get with a low battery?

Seems like the alternator and battery are, by far, the most common culprits of any and all electrical problems on these cars, and they create some bizarre symptoms. Aside from that, maybe a bad ground could cause these symptoms. The other thing that comes to mind is the start-stop system, but I don’t see how that would make the starter motor click and not turn over. Seems like that’s gotta be either a bad battery, bad ground, or weak starter. I guess the other thing I hear of frequently is the brake position switch goes out, which will prevent the motor from starting, but I don’t think you’d hear the starter click with that problem either.

On the other things you mentioned, temp at 215F is okay. According to the manual, the T-stat starts opening around 208F and is not fully open until 228F - I believe the supercharged cars have a higher temp T-stat than the V8. (But do keep a careful eye on coolant, especially if the plastic coolant crossovers have not been changed - lots to read on that topic in the forums). And they are noisy engines - valves ticking, HP fuel pumps hammering away, and the supercharger coupler can get to rattling some too.
