Question Need some quick advice: is this a good buy?

Hi!

Like a moth drawn to a flame I am looking to get into the Disco 4 game again. I found this car. A beautiful XXV edition. (Its for sale on a swedish website (Im Swedish myself) so Ill also transalte the numbers into the imperial system for you.)

https://www.kvd.se/auktioner/161957?...ar_id=15869365
Land Rover Discovery
4 3.0 SDV6, Special Edition XXV
Mileage is 200 000 km (124 274 miles) BUT engine was replaced in 2020 and only has (50 000 km) 31 068 miles since then.

It has normal scratch, bumps, wear and tear from a car thats been frequently used for eight years. Nothing to write home about.

Its been inspected and has no current problem with parking break, air suspension and other similar deal breakers that are problematic for a Disco 4.

If you were shopping for a Disco 4. What would you be prepared to to pay for this car?

I am super greatful for any help and advice you can offer! Thanks in advance, and happy holidays to all you fabulous land rovers! 🎅🚗

Well the fair market value for it seems to have been 171k SEK or roughly 15000 euro as the auction has closed. Looks decent for that price.. assuming buying unseen. You can probably get similar vehicles for similar prices from AutoScout24 or mobile.de.

To add slightly, I wonder if the engine would have been a reconditioned one from a third party or one from JLR. In principle I would not have considered the former at all, since there are no guarantees. If JLR, theirs at least are remanufactured to standards.

Mvh,

Did they fix the crank problems that plagued these diesels? If it were me, I’d make sure that replacement engine didn’t have the same crank as the originals. If it does, I wouldn’t buy one personally.

No, they still snapped in the last D4s and D5s that had the same V6 turbo diesel engine..so maybe until 2019? The newer ones are Ingenium ones I believe.

There are a few threads on that here on LRF on the D5 forum if it happening in North America…
