Default Normal operating temp 3.0 V6 petrol supercharged

2016 North American LR4
3.0 V6 Supercharged

I can't seem to find the coolant temperature range that is normal for the 3.0 V6 petrol supercharged engine. Using a non specific ODBII reader or the Gap tool, what have others seen as normal temps.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Mine seems to vary depending on the outside temp. I am thinking that the cooling system adjusts according to outside temps. When we were in constant 100 degree temp a few weeks ago would go above 204. But the cooler it gets, mid 80s this week 221-226.

Interesting. I was just looking at this and surprised how hot the readings where showing on the OBDII reader for my 2016 SCV6. Mine was 220-222 on a hot california day but just driving around town. It was pretty dynamic and would go down to 218 when costing to a stop light.

The coolant temp on the dash was showing normal but the OBDII reader "Car Scanner" was showing it nearing red zone.

Interested to get some more data on this.

Normal? Ranges on the OBDII not correct? Or...not normal?

NEVER trust a LR Temp gauge! They only move when too late. Same is true for D2.

your temps are in range with mine. The LR4 thermostat doesn’t fully open till like 224 or 226 I can’t remember. Get an ultraguage so you always know

Per the workshop manual during ambient temperatures of 59-95 degree fahrenheit the thermostat begins to open at 208-215 and is not fully open until 226.

A few months ago I needed to replace me thermostat but they were on back order. I put in a thermostat from a 5.0 engine out of necessity. It has a similar housing with the same connections with but it has a 190 degree thermostat inside and it does not have the electrical connection to allow the ECU to manipulate the thermostat.

My engine is running in the 190's with very similar temps as my LR3 with the 4.4 V8.

Interesting, not having the electrical connection plugged it does show a code if you run for codes but does not trigger the check engine light to come on.

Since it is running fine and it's such a pain to bleed the coolant system I'm keeping the 190 thermostat in.

That’s interesting I wonder if the v6 needs the warmer temps though to run efficiently? Being there are so many electronics

I think it is more about emissions. Hotter engines burn off more pollution. The issue is the long term life of the engine. Not really an issue for the first owner who trades it in after 80K miles but the increased heat cycles may reduce the life of the engine for future owners.
