Default purchase

I am looking to buy a LR4, and after doing some research I have settled on a 2013 HSE with 105,000 miles. I would like lower miles but they are hard to find. The truck is in very good condition both interior and paint. The service history from new to 2020 was all done on time and at a Land Rover dealer. Nothing major first 7 years. From 2020 on the service was done on time at independent shop, then in 2024 it got new water pump, intake manifold, coolant pipe, oil cooler lines, and thermostat. I called the shop where work was done by this owner and it is a high end service facility that does ferrari, lambo, mclearen, etc. So I am confident the work was done right.
The dealer is asking $10,000 for the truck. Is there anything else I should look for before getting a PPI and buying?

It needs a full on inspection.
You get what you pay for. And at 100K miles, there's all kinds of things to look at.

the entire coolant system and timing chains are likely getting to the point where they need to be replaced...you can spend $20k+ on that stuff, not to mentions lower control arms, etc,

If the truck has a new water pump and the coolant crossover has just been done what other parts of coolant system will need to be done?
From a lot of the reading I have done the weak point of the timing chain was the tensioners, but this was addressed in the 2013 models, and the chains can last up to 200,00 miles and beyond. Do I need to
replace the timing chain at 100,000 miles?

@rourkeh You need to accept you are buying a used truck things could fail. But your two major issues as you noted are the cooling system and timing chains.
  • Timing chains ask how often the oil was changed (mileage and time) what type oil was used. The biggest issue with the timing chains is poor quality oil and long oil change intervals. These are 3000 to 5000 mile oil change intervals and good quality oil.
  • Coolant pipes are tough, it is a combination in most cases of thermal cycles, pressure and in many cases really old antifreeze. It is not so much that they leak as the placement makes it expensive or time consuming to replace.
They go through brakes, tires and control arms - particularly if you offroad.

It's hard to pinpoint with the chains, my 2012 LR4 had 185k miles on the original chains before they died I spectacular fashion and took the engine out with them. So they shouldn't fail every 100k miles with consistent oil changes as Richard mentioned. They are a pricy repair though and as these trucks age and get cheap, it's hard to find trucks that have actually had money invested into them. Look for a truck with consistent oil changes or better yet one that has had it done, or budget into your purchase price that it may need to be done at some point and to have money set aside.

My 2013 LR4 HSE is just about to hit 125k miles and I bought it 5 years ago at 95k, only time I've encountered any issues was a clogged EGR pipe and a bad coolant hose. I did the brakes when I first purchased it and still have life in them, at 100k I did the trans fluid change/upgrade to the metal pan and the crossover pipes/water pump were changed out because of the paranoia brought on from reading the forums. My independent shop said the chains still look good.
