Default ARB bumper, under side winch mounting

Hi guys,

my disco1 came with an ARB front bumper, with a Warn XD9000 mounted under it.
the wind direction on the barrel of the winch is obviously wrong (would cause extra strain on the bumper and mounting bolts)

but it appears there is some metal on the bumper itself which would interfere with the line leading to the fairlead if i wind it correctly.

Any thoughts on why?

does this winch have a line too long on it for this bumper? (seems strange)

see pic below, you can see the slightly rusty metal where the line would rub if i wound the drum correctly.
This would kink the line and cause a lot more friction.

the easy solution is to cut that metal lip out

(ignore the wires, obviously it is not hooked up yet)

My guess is it was a non-winch ARB Bumper, that someone made into a winch bumper

I think you have the steering guard bar on backwards

the ARB pdf robert linked below describes it as a winch mount cradle

I don't think so, seems to have too many features specific to a winch and the mounting holes/fairlead mount/hole look better than a typical backyard hill billy drill job
i even have the control box mounted to the bracket shown in the pdf

thanks for the link, i actually am missing the steering arm protector entirely it seems, along with the winch guard (basically a skid plate)

looks like the gearbox and motor end have been rotated correctly on this winch already too.
it seems to have all the correct parts, still not sure what was intended with the winch mount cradle

got a response from ARB directly, they say the upper sketch i made in the post above is correct.
Not how I would have done it, but i guess if they say it works, it works.
I will continue as is.

That is the correct mounting orientation for a disco fitted with airbags but it doesnt look right to me, pretty sure the angle on my cable wasnt that steep.
Is it possible that the cradle is fitted the wrong way around ? i know my winch sat further back than yours, in Aus not all D1's had airbags so winches mount directly to the bar.

I also didn’t like the mounting points on my disco1 ARB so I cut up an older winch mount tray and welded it into the arb...now it’s up the right way and pulls straight..was a pain but I didn’t like the way the winch was retaining the water being upside down...plus it was a pain to get to the release lever..
