Badlands vs. Superwinch

Tuff Stuff Xtreme Waterproof Wireless 10500 lb Winch
Now look at this.
3/8" AmsteelBlue Synthetic Winch Lines
1/2" Amsteel Blue Synthetic Winch Lines
Amsteel SK-75 is what just about everybody uses for their most basic winch ropes.
Tuff Stuff 1/2" line is rated for 16,500
3/8" Amsteel is rated for 17,600; 1,100 more than Tuff Stuff
1/2" Amsteel is rated for 30,600; 14,100 more than the same diameter Tuff Stuff!!!
My overall problem with winches like Tuff Stuff is they offer NO specifics. How about line speed? What about amp draw? What kind of solenoid? What is their mystery winch rope made from? How does it hold up to UV rays, heat, cold, fraying???
Even the Badlands winch will give you winch specs!

GEN2 Waterproof Winch - Smittybilt
IP Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia probaly more than you wanted to know but the higher the number the better I think.
I have the TS9500, I had to use it a couple of times last year, but after doing a 40' pull at Windrock I took it off and replaced it with the X2O. It pulled ok but it was so SLOWWWW I almost fell asleep waiting for it to finish. It now serves as my trailer winch. The X2O is not as fast as some of the better Warn or Superwinch models but it's also 1/3 the price.
It's all in what you want and are willing to pay for.

They rated Warn the best even though it tied for 3rd place in the objective areas that matter when out in the boonies.

Takeaways:
Harbor Freight winches - DOA. Try it before you need it.
Warn/Superwinch - top marks, as usual
All of their prices were WAY out of what you'd pay for each of them. Maybe List/MSRP?

Cosmetically it looks really good. He was selling it cheap because he had been using it and smoked the motor. He put a new motor and new solenoids on it and couldn't get the motor to run, so I'm confident it's just wired wrong.
Actually bought it to flip, but you know how that goes. It'll probably go on my F-250.
