Default Disco 1 lift advice

I'm finally getting to the frame and inner fender repairs on my barn find '98 Disco. Now it's time to think of lift kits. My Disco has 100K miles on it, is bone stock, and is primarily going to be used for towing my car trailer, and as my main winter (read SNOW!!) ride. I plan to run the stock 235/70-16's because towing. I'm thinking of the Terra Firma 2" kit with an OME steering stabilizer, and driveshaft spacers front and rear with a new flex disc. I'm also replacing the front shock towers because they're pretty rusty. Anything else I should consider?

While I'm at it, does anyone make a replacement lower gas tank bracket? Mine was completely rotted and falling apart. It wouldn't be too hard to fab something, I'm thinking

.
I also need a fuel pump. Anyone with some good cheap EBay suggestions out there?

Cheers and thanks!

Phil

Since you asked what else you should consider ... if the primary duty is going to be towing a car trailer and you don't need to create room for larger tires, there's no need to lift. But, it's your vehicle so have fun with it. Sure would stink to go through all the work to find it less pleasurable to use for towing.

I would suggest fitting it with Bilstein shocks and OME medium springs. This would give you 1.5-2in of lift and serve your truck well since you are going to run the stock size tires. I had this setup on my 97’ and it was plenty. And snow is laughable in a D1 whether stock or lifted. They are snow cats.

Great looking truck! Always liked the reds.

I am not sure what the point in lifting is if youre going to run stock tires? It would look funny IMO. I would go with MD front springs of stock height, and HD rear springs stock height, and consider adding a rear airbag within the coilspring (firestone offers some cheap options) for towing that you inflate before a trip to level out the trailer. Lifting requires other changes depending on your use, for example my sway bars needed to be extended downwards with a 2" to clear properly so no point in going through that if you dont need the height.

That's probably good advice. I hadn't thought of airbags at the back, that will probably be handy for towing the car trailer. Thanks!

no problem. I think dirtlifestyle on youtube is doing a set for his D2. They are just basically the bags that sit within the coils, so very easy to add. Just add air as needed at home for a really simple system, or you can get fancy and do on board air.
