You can buy that tool at harbor freight and it comes with the rivitnuts. $20?

D1 there are 2types for upper tailights, 1 bolts to body, other hooks behind lens, there are also ones for the lamps in rear bumper, check out my thread for pics

If you wheel at all I'd recommend against the tail lamp guards. A branch or tree will grab that rubber and rip the guard right off, leaving a nice gaping hole in the sheetmetal.

Anyways, I got them installed tonight with help from my father after about 2.5 hours. I also installed my refurbished brush guard.

Don't worry, pictures will be here tomorrow!
So I have the RTC9503AA D1 Lamp guards purchased off eBay and its not clear how they install, especially after ordering an STC 8048 service kit that attaches in a totally different way so I'm still not clear on how best to proceed. The original hardware uses a single rivnut in the the center of the guards closest to the rear door. the rubber strip looks like it also attaches with two rivnuts into the quarter panel near the seam and then the curved part of the guard attaches to the mounted rubber strip with two allen screws into a threaded nut imbedded in the rubber strip. The hard part I see is creating a template to mark the riv nuts position from the back of the mounting rubber into the quarter panel. The STC 8048 service kit is from the UK and mounts with an adhesive strip and two plastic hing pins snapped into the seam space on the quarter panel but for the life of me, I can't see how the edge of the lamp guard attaches to the rubber mounting strip as there are no screw threads and the strip is not as long as the original hardware. If someone has a diagram for install, that would be great. Plenty of threads talking about it but no one has posted the steps with pics of each step. I'm almost inclined to use 3m adhesive tape (double sided) on the original rubber mount to avoid more rivnuts and just screw the lamp guard to that with the other side supported by the two rubber bumper stops and the single rivnut with spacer in the middle. If you have ever mounted these before, you know what I'm talking about

I finally discovered that the bolt ons are made by the OEM supplier Travall which sells the install kit and instructions for $125. They also sent a pdf of the install instructions which helped somewhat. Unless your used set comes complete with the right hardware, your better off buying the new one if you really want them.

No, I installed my used set with large self tap and have had no problems, or you can buy the hf rivitnut kit with same thread rivitnuts for like $20, it is all self explain to install

Don't over think it that's the job of rover engineers lol

Actually ignore this I saw you used self taping screws.
My rivnuts won't fit on the inside due to the metal block
