Since I have now killed the 3 rd fan clutch anyone come up with a good source for electric replacement?

 

If you are killing it from wading in the creek, why not put a switch on the electric one to allow you to kill it whilst wading?

I always thought the Taurus electric fans looked promising, cheap, and plentiful at the boneyard.

 

But it is fun to wade in the creek.
Last 2 never touched water 1was new from ab

Bearings went in the Chevy I took off yesterday , could buy another Chevy I guess, but will look into the ford electric one

My Blazer fan clutch is rocking on, along with the deeper pitch fan. Under $20 at LKQ near me. The nice thing about most boneyards is that there will be a Chevy in there somewhere. My Kia van has electric fans, 279K miles. So they work. My Mercedes has viscous clutch fan and dual electrics that come on at a certain temp range for HVAC extra cooling in summer - and there is a place you can add a resistor and lower the "switch on" point. Not so in the Disco, but a D1 keeps fans on with AC, and a D2 could be modded to do the same with some relays I guess.

I used a airflow meter and saw that my D1 was making about 800-1100 feet per minute of airflow. About 800 with viscous fan and boost up a bit to about 1100 with the electrics on. So you would need a good electric fan to equal the clutch fan. At highway speed don't needed it, I have driven without a fan with a wobbly water pump (just don't stop too long for red lights). Some drive in the land of frozen toes without a fan in winter.

 

I had an HD chevy clutch kill my water pump bearings. Replaced it with a Volvo fan (google it - same P/N as taurus but comes with the necessary relay to wire it up) wired to a two-way switch for hi-off-low. Keeps the engine cool and I can shut it down for crossings.

This cooling topic is beaten to death entirely too much.

If you take care of the system, understand it, it wont faulter.

Mine never goes above 197°, sitting in 100°...sits around 190° verified by Ultragauge. It USED to go up, but I decided to really get down and master the system.

I check for air every two weeks.
New thermostat every year, green coolant.
Radiator is spotless.

I will say, the big changes were the green coolant and the motorad thermostat...but I did change head gaskets in July, just because. Never goes up.

 

You dont needs mods to increase cooling. If I can do it, why cant everyone?

 

My guess is even though I had it rodded my Rad is crap and not transferring heat like is should, I have a new aluminum to install in spring, I have done everything else, I want electric fans just because I see no point in the mech fan, I can turn off the electric when playing in water instead of the mech acting like a boat prop and drenching everything

Plus I want that 1/10000 HP back lol
