Service light
My 98 Discovery just past 80000 miliage and the service light came on. I change the spark plugs, spark plugs wires, oil, oil filter, air filter, O2 sensor and the light is still on. Does anyone knows how to make the light goes off? I even try disconnect the batteries and that didn't work. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

My 2000 Discovery II's service engine light comes on when use fuel from a station with ethanol in the fuel, like Arco . When I use Chevron or Shell the light eventually goes out.

By the way Federal standards now require all gas companys to use 10% or more of ethenol, including Chevron.
Something else trip you a code.

Cobra, look for a box with a Rover emblym located in the r/f pass. kick panel. Once you find it you will need to stick a wire, like a paper clip thru the whole while the ignition is on, this will rest the service light.

Thank you Mike, I guess I can go back to running Arco. I ran the codes this weekend and it does have some fault codes. P0733 gear 3 incorrect ratio, P0734 gear 4 incorrect ratio, p0174 system too lean(bank 2) , p0171 system too lean(bank 1), p0154 O2 sensor no activity detected( bank 2, Sensor 1), p0155 O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 2 sensor 1)
Do I need a new MAf meter or is there a way to clean the MAF without causing damage? Looks like a O2 sensor is bad. Is there a problem with the transmission becouse of the p0733 and p0734 codes?
Thank you,
Willie

Willie,
Yes, you need a MAF. Trying to clean the Bosh NAF's that are used on D2's is a band aid only, it will not bring them back to full operation and you will still need to replace it.
The tranny is fine, those codes are part of the package of codes the ECU will put out when the MAF is failing.
How many miles are on your truck? Sounds like it is time for 4 new O2 sensors, shop around alittle, you can find some pretty good prices for replacements on line, also the same for the MAF. I have a friend/shop owner that will sell you a new one for apx. $135, if interested let me know and I'll send you the info.

My Discovery has 97,000 miles on it. It still runs strong and smooth. Thats good news about the transmission. I shopped around for o2 sensors and I found Napa to have front Bosch 15175 for $64.99 and rear Bosch 15630 for $63.49. Schucks wanted $100.00 each for the same part. I am interested in your friends MAF.
