why do you hate the fulltime 4wd? its a better case than the 231 since its gear driven. in a XJ everything is always moving anyway unless you changed to manual hubs.

Here it is. I'm guessing the advantage is better gas mileage.

I am interested but have not decided to tackle the project yet.

the mpg thing is negligible though. arent the hubs always engaged? or is there some sort of disconnect on the front axle? if there isnt, everything is always spinning anyway.. it just coasts in the tcase.

why? again, the jeep tcase is weaker, wont bolt in, and has less low range gearing.

converting to diesel isnt going to be cheap... the cheapest one you'll be able to find is a 4BT, but you'll have to fab your own motor mounts, find a trans, fab trans mounts, adapt to the tcase or find something suitable that bolts up... then gauges, cooling, all the other wiring....

its not a simple task. its easier (and cheaper) to buy one of the converted tdi discos for sale on ExPo for $10-12k
