Default Tow hooks?!

I've searched for a good thread but haven't found one. I wonder if there is a good way of adding recovery points or tow hooks without adding after market/arb bumpers. They're a little pricey and personally not a big fan of the look, but would very much like to add some secure recovery points front and back of my 99 disco II for the special situations. Any help/ideas ? I'm sure someone has done this.

The back is easy, assuming you have a receiver hitch. You can get an adapter to put a shackle, or you can just put the strap in the receiver and hold it with the hitch pin.

You'll have to buy or make something for the front.

Something like this MIGHT be able to be bolter to the bumper reinforcement. But the jumper might be be string enough. I'm not sure.

Something like this bolted to the chassis, behind the crush points, might be better.

It is equipped with the factory style receiver, which would be great for a D-ring shackle, I did wonder if it was strong enough to handle the load, it looks just a bit different than other receivers I've seen installed. Thank you.

If you want secure you don't want hooks.
A set of JATE rings would be the easiest.

I mentioned using my JATE rings on my defender for recovery to an offroad driving instructor, and he suggested that they weren't rated for overhead lifting and were cast and might not be suitable for recovery.

But then I see photos like that, and I think SOMEONE thinks they are rated for overhead lifting.

They are forged, not cast.
