@gmfain any issues with that Mahle filter you posted above from RockAuto? Planning to do this service in the coming weeks. Thanks!

No problem at all. Rockauto is my go-to parts place.

Ended up over tightening the new fuel filter and broke the plastic screw that holds the filter… had to order a whole new assembly 😅 seems like a straight forward swap, but expensive mistake. What an idiot!

Any tricks to getting the clasp that holds the drain tube to the bottom of the filter plastic piece undone? Mine doesn’t seem to want to undo.

Did you do anything with the drain tube after disconnecting it? Or just leave it loose?

Great directions!

thanks!

MAKE SURE ENGINE IS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(LINK TO PHOTOS AT BOTTOM)

1.REMOVE DRAIN TUBE (READ NOTE ON DRAIN TUBE)((DO NOT RE-ATTACH DRAIN TUBE!!!))
2.PLACE A HAND FULL OF SHOP TOWELS UNDER FILTER FOR SPILLAGE.
3.PRESS TO RELEASE TAB, TO FREE UP FILTER CRADLE.
4.GENTLE PULL ASSEMBLE UP, TO GAIN BETTER ACCESS TO CONNECTIONS.
5.THE CONNECTORS ARE SQUEEZE TO RELEASE TYPE. (NONE ARE UNDER PRESSURE WHEN ENGINE IS OFF)
6.THE SAFETY YELLOW CLIP NEEDS TO SLIDE OVER, TO ACCESS THE SQUEEZE BUTTONS.
7.NOW CAREFULLY PULL UP ASSEMBLE ENOUGH TO UNCLIP ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.
8.ON YOUR BENCH, US 20MM TORX TO REMOVE PLASTIC CRADLE, RE-INSTALL USING LINE UP MARK ON NEW FILTER.
9.UNCLIP THE BLACK PLASTIC FUEL CATCH/DRAIN FROM THE BOTTOM.
10.IF YOURS HAS THE SENSOR, THEN UNSCREW THE WHITE WATER DRAIN, THEN SCREW IN YOUR SENSOR. USE THE NEW WASHER SUPPLIED ON THE WHITE WATER DRAIN CAP.
11.NOW JUST REVERSE FOR INSTALL.

12.TO PRIME NEW FILTER. PRESS START BUTTON, NO FOOT ON BRAKE. WAIT 30 SECONDS, IT WILL SELF PRIME.( i DID IT TWICE)

13. START UP, AND CHECK FOR LEAKS.

NOTE ON DRAIN TUBE:
IF TUBE IS ATTACHED, AND FUEL ENTERS THE TUBE, IT DUMPS INTO THE INNER FENDER WELL, AND WILL MIGRATE INTO THE CABIN! YOU'LL NEVER GET THE SMELL OUT!!

USE AT YOU OWN RISK. NOT RESPONSIBLE.

Don't beat me up to bad.
Any downside to leaving the yellow clip off?

No trick, I think I just cut it, if we are talking about the same thing.

I just shoved the tube where it wouldn't dangle.

It could possible work its way loose, and spray fuel around, until it caught fire, maybe????

I'll chance it and post a warning if the quick connect fuel line disconnects. As near as I can tell, the purpose of the yellow fitting is to block accidental depression of the release tab for the quick connect hose fitting

Perfect, I'm waiting on the new plastic piece to arrive and then I'll get that wrapped up. If I leave my fuel lines disconnected from the fuel filter until the new piece arrives will that effect the system? Once the new filter is installed and primed it should take care of itself, right?

New water sensor fitted after snapping the plastic on the old one and everything put back in place on the filter. Truck drives like a dream and so far no diesel fume smell inside the cabin. My car did have some rough idle initially when first started and put in R, but that went away. Thanks for the help!
