Default 2017 Discovery tailgate/trunk/boot causing problems

Hello - the electric tailgate/trunk/boot has started acting up. I have the following issues:

- the fold down shelf has stopped working altogether and needs to be operated manually
- open/close with the remote control works intermitently
- open/close with the button under the 'V' works normally

Is there anything I can test before booking the car in with the dealer?

thanks

Hi,

Did you manage to resolve your issue? Seems I have the same?

Thanks,
Tomasz

Hi. Did you get any answers to this I have the same issue. It opens slightly from the key. Perfect from button under the V
Also the small inner tailgate nothing at all. Has to be manual. I did hear a clunking noise almost like something had fell inside the boot when the issue happened

Had the same issues with my '20, primarily when pressing the tailgate close button the lower tailgate portion would not pull up, the upper would then close and hit the lower/stop 3/4 shut and beep with an error. I have had it in 3 times, the last time they realigned the upper tailgate and resynced the communication modules or whatever they call it. We'll see if it's fixed.

Let's be honest folks, this is just a typical LR superfluous tailgate design that will just turn into a pile of poo. All so we can sit on our tailgate for watching polo matches! 🤬🤷‍♂️

I have a similar problem. I caused it but can’t figure out what parts to fix it. I was loading the car and the inner tailgate kept raising. I got mad and finally shoved it down. Definitely heard something crack, the. The motor would run and the cable would sort of move the inner tailgate. Finally it all just stopped working. I’m sure I broke some motor off its mount under the driver side end.

And it sounded like something clunking under then floor or inside the rear bumper when it was trying to work.

Did you ever find out what was going on with yours?

when the lower load door/flap stopped working for me, it needed a new motor. This is the part that retracts/extends the cables to raise/lower the flap. when you search for the part, LR calls it a "strut" in the parts listings/diagrams.

since it has been replaced the tailgate has mostly been functioning as it should.
