2017 HSE lux, 25k miles - question about brakes
Hi all,
Just took my wife's car in for service and am being told the car needs new brakes. 25k so not surprised we need new pads. Reason for the post - I'm being told they won't replace just the pads and the rotors in the car are a use and throw away with the pads product. They won't replace just the pads. They want 3700 bucks for the brakes. Has anyone experienced total new break job at 25k? thanks, all.

JLR does recommend rotor replacement with breaks. That said the price quoted seems ridiculous!
Based on parts cost alone it should be around $250 for the front pads and sensors, $300 for the rotors. Rear is a bit cheaper, so all in around $1k without labor.

A recommendation is just that,a recommendation. Similar to an opinion. If it isn’t required, then it’s a suggestion or advice, not mandatory. Rotors do have a measure spec on it for minimum thickness.
My brakes went out at 28k, rear 3mm and front 7mm left. I was quoted $1200 for rear only, including pads, rotors and sensor. Since rear brakes are more complicated as you have to deal with electric brakes, $3700 for all is really excessive. Set of parts for rear cost about $400 from Land Rover dealer online.
When braking, both from high speed or more moderately, if you have no pulsing in your brake pedal, you probably do not need new rotors, particularly at your low mileage. Any good tire or brake shop can replace the pads (and maybe the wear sensor) at a moderate price. These are nothing special -- any good tech can do it quickly. The prices quoted (both OP and #5) are outrageous unless these cars have been driven off road, over rocks and gullies. My thought.
At $3700, buy a book, buy some tools, buy a trolley lift from Pep Boys, and learn to do it yourself if you are going to be that hard on the car's brakes. My thought.
