2017MY Full Diesel Engine Replacement @20kms
Had our 2017 Land Rover Discovery Td6 HSE Luxury in for its first service early. Vehicle has been great thus far, with only some minor complaints (TPMS glitches etc.) but otherwise ok. Engine has always run a bit noisy, but it is a Diesel so that is not entirely unexpected. Received a call from the dealership that the engine is shot & needs full replacement, which was quite the surprise.
Service thus far has been good to deal with, but we now have definite concerns about both long term reliability and accelerated depreciation. Unfortunately this was a purchase, not a lease so we are stuck with the outcome & cannot return at the end of term.
I have searched forums online but not seen much about this engine, good or bad. Has anyone seen or heard of this happening to others?

HFS! Sorry to hear it. Our 2019 is a lease fortunately. But please keep us posted - very interested to see how things go from here.
FWIW, before leasing I did scour the boards for TD6 issues and didn't find anything especially worrisome.

Yes, 20,000 kms. We have owned the vehicle for 8 months.
Met with the dealer yesterday, they noted reason for replacement was due to metal shavings found in the oilpan during the scheduled maintenance, and the loud knocking. They felt an internal part in the engine has failed, and LR would prefer to do an entire replacement rather than chase bits & pieces. I have to say I agree, and appreciate that they are forthcoming with the replacement engine offer.
Still haven't found or heard of anyone else experiencing this so hopefully an isolated fluke?

hi - we had first engine replaced at 25k - slow to accelerate from standing (especially noticeable at roundabouts). Same issue happening at 55k miles and just been told car needs it’s 3rd engine
anyone else having this problem and experience with replacement outside of warranty?
Which engine?
Slow to accelerate from standstill (throttle lag) was an issue on the early V6 SC petrol/gas engines but solved with a pcm/transmission software patch some time back now. What exactly are your symptoms? A new engine is a very big deal - extremely rare in these cars.
