I own a new to me 2018 Discovery TD6 with about 37k miles. Recently we had issues with the SOS system and having it make calls to the SOS service. We initially thought it was the TCU battery but the code our local LR shop is getting is B116D-97 which is actually not the battery but something perhaps with the switch pack. The shop hasn’t had any luck with finding out if they can only replace the ‘Switch pack’ saying the LR dealer in Portland (over 3hrs away) is only showing the TCU itself with no parts called a switch pack.
some other things we have noticed since this started…
-Initially when the random SOS call’s happened they folks on the other end could hear us. Not anymore. In fact even though our phones are connected via Bluetooth and can stream audio and place a call, the microphone doesn’t pick up our voice
-I used to be able to use InControl remote to remote start, that doesn’t work anymore
-I noticed that SOS message says both limited functionality and then SOS inoperable
-it now also takes about 2-4min upon start up for the car to ‘deal’ with the SOS stuff…I notice that the SIM card in settings says mobile data reserved for SOS system then once it’s done ‘dealing’ with the SOS it continues to work and I get the 4G icon in the display. During this entire time the audio system won’t play anything. It’s not until I see that 4G icon that audio will play.
so my question is if anyone has experienced this? Is it possible to replace just what they are calling a ‘switch pack’? If so what’s that part number?
Bit of an update. Local shop tried to do some additional troubleshooting...primarily doing a software update on the TCU and they couldn't even communicate with it. So, looking like a full replacement of the TCU is needed.
