I was initially planning on switching from a 2012 LR4 to a diesel D5, mainly for mileage purposes. I'm not sure if a diesel Defender will be available in the US. However, after reading reviews of the P400 hybrid on the FFRR and RRS, with a fullly charged battery, the engine can churn out around 70 MPG, until after the battery runs out (31 mile range). Even then, with gas alone, it makes 21-24 MPGs. Compared to my 2012 V8 LR4 (average 15 MPG), a P400 is a huge improvement.

I have been looking at the Defender engine options a bit as well. It seems the latest 6 cyl diesel is not an option in any market at the moment (UK, Oz). Not sure I want a complex drivetrain like the P400 in a Defender. I was toying with the idea of getting a D90 with the SD6, with my wife keeping the D5 as the family hauler. Now that it seems the P400 will be the only 6cyl option, I'm not so sure.

15 MPG is pretty good for the V8 LR4, my wife manages that with the Si6 D5 (But then again she likes to drive fast)

Curious if anyone else has put a deposit in/placed an order and what you are hearing on delivery timeframe. Seems to me the dealers know very little. My "order" is in a holding pool, whatever that means.

My neighbor was told he wouldn’t be able to take delivery until next summer. And he was top of the dealer’s list.
