Default 2023 Discovery P360 Oil Change DIY

Hi folks. Here's some notes from a recent oil change on my 2023 Land Rover Discovery P360 Metropolitan. I don't recommend pumping the oil through the dipstick hole as the siphon tube can get stuck.

Oil Change
  1. Warm up car to operating temperature. Turn off engine.
  2. Remove engine cover by pulling gently on each corner. There are 4 mounting points to pop off.
  3. Remove oil filter cap (27 mm). There's a small amount of oil (< 1/8 quart) in the filter housing which you can siphon out.
  4. Remove dip stick.
  5. Remove skid plate - (15 mm bolts x 11 qty). There is 1 bolt in center of plate - remove it last to avoid plate from bending.
  6. Remove oil drain plug - (13 mm). After loosening it, I recommend using a long extension, like 12"+, for the final unthreading to avoid getting hot oil on you.
  7. Take a break while letting it drain
  8. Install oil drain plug (~20 to 24 Nm torque). It has a built-in rubber ring. Recommend replacing with a new one.
  9. Replace o-ring on oil filter cap and lube.
  10. Lube the o-rings on new filter and push the new filter into the filter cap.
  11. Install filter cap and torque to 25 Nm
  12. Add 8 quarts of oil and install oil cap.
  13. Install dip stick and check oil level. it should be between the two holes.
  14. Start car, check for leaks. Turn off engine and wait a few minutes for the oil level to settle.
  15. Install skid plate. Be sure to tighten the bolts nice and snug (~50 to 60 Nm torque). I recommend a dab of blue threadlocker. The bolts are part number LR033163. I was missing a few and used Dorman M10-1.50 Thread Hex Bolt - 980-530D (plus generic 1 inch washers).
  16. Check oil level and top off as needed (typically, around 8.4 quarts total).

Oil Service Interval Reset Instructions (thank you Kevin Ringer)
Note: To view next service interval, with doors closed, press the start button without stepping on the brakes. Go to Settings (gear icon) > All > Vehicle > Service Information. Next service in: ???? miles is displayed.
  1. With hood and all doors closed, press the start button without stepping on the brakes.
  2. Open the driver door and release the hood. Close the door.
  3. Open the door then press and hold down the brake pedal (with left foot). After 3 seconds, also press and hold down the accelerator pedal. After 3 seconds, you should see "Service resetting" in your instrument cluster.
  4. Continue holding both brake and accelerator pedals. The instrument cluster will display a variety of messages. After about 10 seconds, you should see "Service counter reset".
  5. Done. The service information screen should now display "Next service in: 21,??? miles".
