Battery Grounding Points for Winch. Advise needed!!
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I just purchased a Keeper 7500 winch for my 2022 Discovery 5. I like that the winch can connect to the trailer hitch however, the 7-pin connection does not provide enough power. So I need to connect the winch directly to the battery, which I located in the trunk. I am able to connect the positive terminal by unscrewing the nut, putting the positive wire hook on the terminal, and reattaching the nut. Easy.
For the negative, I am having difficulty completely removing the nut. I can unscrew the nut but when it gets to the end of the screw which is connected to the terminal, the nut stops at the top. Can I connect the negative to another point in the trunk near the battery? It's a tight area to work in and I am really not comfortable removing the whole battery from it's secured frame. Also always concerned about dropping a nut and NEVER ever finding it, only to hear it rattling around in perpetuity.
Pictures below that hopefully help to explain my problem.
Another picture of negative terminal location
Awkward location of negative terminal with negative wire for winch placed on top
Closer up of potential negative hookup point
Negative terminal with nut
Potential negative hookup point. Will this suffice?
