Brand New To Forum - Lux Build Option Question
Hello, I have been reading many of the posts over the last few weeks and appreciate all I have learned so far. I am very close to ordering an HSE LUX td6.. My situation is this: I have owned a Hummer H2 since purchasing new in 2005. It has never been driven off road. My plan is to keep the disco for 10 years or more. I doubt I will do any off roading with it either. Other than a couple of trips into the mountains, to ski, I would anticipate normal combination of city and highway driving. I also may tow a trailer at times. Question I have is should I still get the $1275 Capability Plus package for resale value or any other reason? I have never owned a JLR vehicle but really like what I have seen! Also if I purchase out of my home state do you think I will be treated any differently (negatively) at the local dealership when it comes to servicing and warranty work? Thanks in advance for any input!
I purchased out of my home state and my local dealer has been great about getting me in for services. I would expect the same of any other dealer.
As for the capability plus package, I don’t think it will retain value after 10+ years. That said, I have it and look forward to using it

We have a 2019 HSE Lux TD6, about an $80k MSRP so super loaded, but no CP package as that covers stuff that's outside our use.
In general, options do not age well in terms of residual/resale value. 5-10 year old used vehicles typically have pricing clustered very closely around the basics - i.e. which engine does it have, and how many miles does it have. Yes, there is some differentiation between vehicles with/without certain options, but not all that much...

When you are already that high on rice - another $1275 for something that you MAY use is worth it.
Personally, I do not buy cars based on resale so that is not a consideration. If it were then I would definitely get the CP.
It is not like a tow hitch - you cannot add the CP on later.

Of course we are STILL waiting to actually get ours but . . . adding additional features / options that I won't ever use are just more expensive stuff that will likely cause trouble or break over time in my opinion. If I was not going to use it, I would not get CP just for resale 10 years out. But I would also not get a Hummer or Landrover I was never going to get dirty either . . . There are other luxury SUVs that would meet the need, likely cause less trouble over time, and resale value on these Euro-wagons is kind of an oxymoron. This will be our 5th of various makes. Did not buy ANY thinking resale. I just love them. I want a Landrover because we will actually use it offroad on the farm here and up at 9000 ft at the cabin and, since this will be our 4th, these 3.0 diesels are still the best power plant for these mid-size SUVs IMO.
Are you planning to sell it privately or just trade-in?
At about 10 years options like that will make a big difference in private party sales as the next owner will likely want it for offroad trips.
The Land Cruiser 80 was a good example were the price for one with factory lockers were quite a few grand more than without after 10 years in the private market.
If you plan to trade in, you will not get anything extra for an option like that or very little. Most options are like that, reason why European brands tend to suck on resell vslue compared to Japanese brands with far fewer options.

Army rover is right. If I am not mistaken the rear locker on an LR3 had a sticker cost of $800 and around here vehicles with lockers sell for a min of $1K more and closer to $2K more.
