Hey guys CarPlay is out!
They have 18c update in the UK , so hopefully coming to us soon.

My Disco was just updated , fixing a wifi problem. I am assuming I have the 18b update (all the service advisor would say is it is the phase 4 update) but when I get it back later today or tomorrow morning I will check.

That's good news. Will be great to see some real user experiences with Carplay in the V.

 

Wow, I honestly thought that Land Rover Car Play was just an urban legend. Looking forward to it.

I have mine back now and it is the 18B version. It does have a check for update button so hoping I can update to the next version without bringing it back to the dealer.

Not sure why there would be a fee for optional upgrade, per the article above.

Either way will be great to have Carplay available.

 

I have read some things online (file in rumor mill department) that there are licensing fees paid by the auto manufacturers to CarPlay and that was part of the hold up for JLR.
True or not I imagine they are charging because people will pay. Which is not cool because GMC does not charge for it. I looked at a Yukon Denali before buying my Discovery and loaded they are about the same sticker ($80K) Yukon had CarPlay. I just went to GMC and configured a Denali, no charge for CarPlay. Also configured their cheapest truck, a Canyon, lowest trim, $23k still has CarPlay free.

So some companies look at it as marketing tool, others look at is as revenue source.

Updated: sorry just saw that I posted this in the UK thread. Was a little to exited about getting this feature today.

Getting my 2018 Discovery back today. $500 for CarPlay upgrade at the dealer.
