That said...I'm more likely to use this space for storage than for actually insulating / cooling any beverages, so I may just follow your suggestion.
Ah. We don't have the cooler box....

Regarding Apple Carplay vs. Android Auto: With Apple Carplay being really nice, I can't say the same of Android Auto. Despite having a newer phone and the OEM USB-C cable, my Android Auto doesn't fill the entire LR screen, which is really a waste of lots of real estate. Do you observe the same?

I sent the car back since I'm still not having good reliability with the InControl Remote app or the SIM card. The tech and I had been talking for a few weeks about CarPlay. There is one other person (Jag owner) in town that has been asking about it, too. They reinstalled the SW on his two weeks ago in hopes that CarPlay would show up. It didn't and the tech was adamant it was because it hadn't rolled out to our market yet. I was skeptical, but when I dropped it off yesterday, I asked. They said they received an email on Wednesday that said it might be in our market now. Sure enough, they reinstalled, and I'm told the icon showed up. So, I'm picking it up today. Fingers crossed!

Well, the Disco finally has CarPlay! Pretty neat to use, especially compared to the InControl Apps. Still playing around with it to see if it's a long-term solution, or I prefer to just do the stuff on my phone. Either way, it sounds like the whole market rollout is legit.

Did you ever solve this? On our D5, quitting the app before plugging in does *not* solve it. Nor, btw, does a quick off/on of the engine. You have to turn off, get out, lock the doors, re-enter, and start the car again. At least that's what we experienced.

Haven't tried it but will in the next few days and can report back. Another issue I've noticed is when answering or making a call while plugged in using CarPlay, there's no way to just use the phone itself (unless you unplug it)... this can be annoying.

Huh that's interesting. I've not noticed either way on our D5, nor on my Volvo. I'll check both when I can and report back. I do know that on my Volvo at least, I can use the phone to directly enter stuff into Maps, Messages, Mail, etc. though I do need to first click on I'm Not Driving on the phone when prompted.

Had the dealer update SW and add the Smartphone pack. FYI they charged $350 for it, and that will likely be what most dealers do in the future given it is a $300 option when ordered now.

I just played a bit with it and noticed that in settings for Apple devices I had to set the default to connect to Carplay and not InControl Apps. Initially had issues to get it to connect, as it kept trying to use InControl.

Also noticed that even when connected I can still get my iPhone screen to come on and show the app, etc that is working. Waze is on the App list, yeah.
EDIT: FYI it seems iOS 12 is needed fro Google Maps and Waze. My wife has iOS 11 and it didn't show up when plugging in her phone.

Side note: The service rep noted that they just update all SW on the D5, so we shall see if it affects the shifting/lag at low speed. Bummer part is that it lost a number of setting that I had to redo, like TPMS light load, etc.

How much was the upgrade option for the 2018? Had a dealer quote me $500

I have a 2019, the option was not available when I ordered. However the dealer charged me $350 to add the smartphone package later. That seems more reasonable since it is a $300 factory option now.
