I discovered today that the same thing happened to me. Updated to iOS 12 and no longer have text messaging. Found this on the forum. It worked for me. Basically a Bluetooth setting has changed back to a default.
Go in to the Bluetooth setting on your iPhone and then find fhe F-PACE entry click the blue circle to get more info. Then once that opens move the slider next to notifications so it’s green.

I simply brought my 2017 TD6 in stating the bluetooth was dropping and when done it did have Android/Apple Play. This was in North Florida.
That said, if you do get the update, the climate control has been moved off of the main display, you have to either hit the seat button or the ac button on the top middle of the AC control panel to display the climate control on the main display. Ended up having to ask the tech at LR how to access it because I couldn't find out how to control the rear climate any longer.
That said, so far I haven't had a single lockup or BT drop since the update and the screen is much more responsive. Granted my unit was still on the original software so it was a big update for me.

I have been reading the f pace and velar forums both US and UK and it appears it is an optional part of the update , sounds like they have to select the option when using the pathfinder system to update your vehicle.
It would appear that would also give the dealer the option to charge for Carplay.
Maybe some dealers are just adding all the options without thinking about it.

I am purchasing a CPO Disco 2018 from a dealer in Bethesda and as a contingency I had them update the software and add Apple CarPlay. The SA sent me a video of Apple CarPlay using one of the tech's phones, so I believe they have to add it as part of the 18c update but it is definitely doable. I told them I knew it was doable due to this forum and others, they didn't even bat an eye, just went ahead and installed it. FYI.
