The attached shop manual procedure shows the disconnection of a couple coolant lines (Removal steps 4, 5, and 10) on each side of the engine prior to removing the sound proofing pads.
Has anyone removed these sound proofing pads and changed spark plugs without disconnection of the coolant lines?
And if anyone has disconnected the coolant lines is it just a trickle of coolant that escapes (since it's so high on the engine)?
Thanks for you help.
Hey there! Check post 29. I didn't remove any coolant lines. There are some wires to move by unclipping on the left side but not the right. They're both underneath the heat cover. Just be gentle with it.
Today is annual service day for the Disco. Car has 74,500 miles and got new oil and filter, cabin filter, transfer case and diff fluids and spark plugs. As always this forum has proven extremely useful in tackling those items (I have the workshop manual but sometimes it overcomplicates things, e.g. removing the coolant pipes/hoses that are the topic of this thread). The spark plugs that came out looked reasonably normal (caveat that I am no expert), however the ones from the back (cylinders 3 and 6) had rusted threads which suggest to me water/coolant ingress in some way or form. While taking out those two did require some more strength than the rest, the new ones threaded very easily.
Would love to here thoughts from people with more expertise than mine, as to potential causes. Engine has been working perfectly fine and I have never experienced any low coolant warnings.
