Can you take the rear shield off without removing the front shield?

I removed the shields and the noise remains exactly the same. No way the tech drove it after removing them and then guessing wind in your broken shield was the problem. Ticked they wanted me to pay $850 to replace a perfectly good part and didn't even bother to do a proper diagnosis. Back to Rover I guess 🙄

The dent that "destroyed" my transmission shield is a couple mm thick 😂

One more bump in the story. The dealer told me water was coming down the inside of the windshield after they washed it. I've never had that happen before. I even took it through the car was the morning before I took it to them for service and there were no leaks...when it rains it pours?? 🫠

We keep calling the front and rear skid plates heat shields. Nevertheless, I had a rattling heat shield on the transfer case because one of the holes for the through bolt was broken. Probably a long shot but here's the part number. LR082660

I should have just called this thread "Woes" ...maybe it's not the supercharger 🙄

After a week and a half at the dealer, they said the noise was from a bracket touching the catalytic converter that they bent back into shape and "spark knock" from low octane gas. They put some solution into the gas and added some gas. We test drove it briefly and there was no noise....of course it started making the noise on the way home and again every drive since then. They are least admitted it wasn't the transmission under shield...

Does this sound like spark knock? There aren't many videos on it. Do I need to run some more cleaning solutions through the system? What kind if so? I'm tired of spending weeks in loaners at this point...missed a great ride last weekend 🤌

I was pleasantly surprised the dealer didn't charge me for the extra worker. I've also realized they didn't fix the issue 🤦 maybe it needs some more gas cycled through?

Can this happen of the last shop installed the gasket wrong before reattaching the supercharger?

Ideas appreciated!

O'Riley recommendation replacing spark plugs and running a fuel system cleaner. Seems worth a shot.

This is a great walkthrough of how to change the spark plugs on the V8 of thos engine. All steps have been the same so far.... waiting for the engine to cool off before removing the spark plugs.

Just replaced my spark plugs at 55k miles. Not sure if they were that bad. There's certainly buildup in some of the cylinders. Does that look like normal buildup?

Tools needed
  • Socket - wrench extension tool (about 5 inches long)
  • 15mm deep socket or 15mm spark plug socket
  • Magnet on an extender if you don't have the spark plug socket
  • T30 bit driver. Helps to have it in socket format for the tight angles
  • Some anti-locking paste
  • A wrench that can bend into multiple angles. It's tight in there and a straight wrench would not work
  • Breaker bar (even if it's a kids toy &#128517
  • Endoscope is a plus!
The left side is much harder to access. Good luck!

You have to get creative to find the right amount of torque to unscrew the plugs

My first question would be - are you running good quality 91+ octane fuel? Low octane and poor quality fuel can cause knock. Regardless I’d run a quality (not Gumout) fuel system cleaner twice annually. Last I’d take any advice from a cashier at an auto parts store with a large grain of salt (or not take it at all)
