I asked landrovermerriam parts what numbers are required for the install on my 2017 and 2 of the 3 part numbers jaacina provided are the same and not including the hoses, so now I'm really confused.

Any other info on your install would be helpful.
The underhood photos are above. The hose can be cut and the engine heater installed in the middle. Is there something more specific that you want to see?

I looked at LR054145 and it is the cord that goes from the heater to the the outside of the vehicle. Same as what I used (LR070516), but possibly longer.

jaacina thank you. Super helpful. I didn't pay attention that you posted the under hood photos initially. Did you buy the hoses?

To better explain where the engine heater is installed, the upper radiator hose has a tee in the middle with a hose that goes down. That hose has the heater installed in it.

This is the original hose. I replaced it with the two hoses listed above with the heater in the middle. The hose is about 40MM diameter. If I knew what I know now I would be tempted to try something like a Zerostart 3200003 Lower Radiator Hose Heater. Cut that hose and stick in the middle.

Yes, I just spent the money instead of cutting mine up.

I ended up going the cheap route with the Zerostart. Has overall good reviews. I do like LR's integration better though.

Thank you for the suggestion and all the info. I'll let the forum know how this works out. If it sucks I won't be too upset about the $40 investment.

Got the Zerostart installed this morning. Plan to use it on trip up to the mountains this week. The installation was pretty easy, but it was extremely tight fitting. Hose definitely had to stretch a bit to get it on. We'll see how it works this week.

Worked pretty good I think. Ambient temps were about 20F. Torque App coolant temp read 105 plugged in overnight. Didn't get any glow plug indication. Started easy.

Good afternoon! First time posting and I appreciate all the great info on the forum! I have a question for those who have installed the block heater: did you have to drain and bleed the coolant system after installing it? Just trying to plan the job out accordingly. My TD6 is a little rough in the early AM and I figured the heater would make life better for all.

Thanks!

Default Engine heater

I have the Land Rover engine heater. I installed it in 2018 on my 2017 TD6 Discovery. It is not a block heater but an inline hose heater. Yes you will loose coolant. I didn't think it was too much.

The Land Rover one works well, but I would just go with the Zerostart one if I was to do it again. Either option requires pulling a hose off. I replaced my hose with one that went with the heater instead of just cutting it to the required length.

I agree I've had the Zerostart on for 2 years with no issues. Performs well. I do like the integrated look with the LR parts though. And yeah I didn't lose much coolant.
